Promising Australian amateur golfer Jack Trent is raring to make his US PGA Tour debut in Las Vegas after playing a dream practice round with his idol Adam Scott.

Scott went out of his way to schedule the 20-year-old in for a Tuesday game before the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which Trent will play as a sponsor's exemption.

Trent won the exemption by stripping Cole Hammer, amateur world No.1 at the time, of the Southern Highlands Collegiate event in a play-off earlier this year.

Scott personally called University of Nevada (Las Vegas) star Trent recently after asking to be connected through the college's golf coaching staff.

Former world No.1 Scott, who attended the same university in the late 1990s, played 18 holes with fellow Sunshine Coast native Trent on Tuesday at TPC Summerlin.

"I have stayed in touch with UNLV golf since I left, especially with another Aussie (now) on the team," Scott said ahead of his own debut at the event.

"If I think back to all the opportunities UNLV opened for me in the United States, (I wanted to do) the same thing for Jack.

"Hopefully, he is in for a good week. He obviously knows what he's doing out here on the course."

Trent, who moved to the US as a teenager, admits he was nervous about playing with the 2013 Masters winner Scott.

"It was pretty cool; I asked for his signature when I was 10 years old, so to be in this position right now feels a little surreal," he said.

"Adam was super chilled and made it really easy for me today.

"My goal this week is to have four really solid rounds. I think that would be a great week for me.

"I have a lot of family and friends coming out so I am going to try to soak it up as much as I can."

The Shriners is a PGA Tour event held at TPC Summerlin, a 7,255-yard course located just 20 minutes from Vegas' famous strip of casinos.

Joining Scott and Trent in the field are fellow Australians Rod Pampling, the 2016 Shriners winner, as well as Cameron Smith, Cameron Percy, Aaron Baddeley and Matt Jones.
