Castle Eden Golf Club

Originally named the Dene Golf Club upon being opened shortly after the end of the First World War, the Castle Eden course was given its new title in 1927. Its opening three holes are widely recognised as one of the most difficult starts to a round in the whole of England, measuring in excess of four hundred yards apiece.

The tree-lined fairways present golfers with a challenging shot from most tees, and a good approach is essential on the outward nine to avoid the many bunkers around the greens.

Incidentally, the hollow on the left of the fairway on the thirteenth is as a result of an air crash during the Second World War.
