Shirley Park Golf Club

Shirley Park was built in 1913. The course, set in 130 acres of rolling Surrey countryside, was designed by Tom Simpson and Herbert Fowler.

The architects responsible for the clubhouse were Tubbs, Messer and Poulter. The cost of both the course and clubhouse was, in modern currency, £1.2 million, with the expenditure on one hole, the present ninth, being £136,000.

The high cost of this particular hole was due the complete destruction of a forest. A similar scheme today would be met understandably with howls of protest!

Visitors are very welcome at Shirley Park Golf Club but are advised to book their round in order to avoid disappointment.
