Horizon Irish Open 2022, Mount Juliet Estate, Co Kilkenny: June 30 - July 3
Aussie Lucas Herbert returns to defend at Mount Juliet, where he won after leading in every round
From DP World Tour News:
Lucas Herbert is hoping the memories of his victory 12 months ago can inspire him to a successful defence at the 2022 Horizon Irish Open.
The Australian claimed a wire-to-wire victory last season at Mount Juliet Estate but he did not have it all his own way, birdieing two of his last four holes to get his hands on the trophy after being in a tie for the lead stood on the 15th tee.
Since then he has also claimed a maiden victory on the PGA TOUR and while he has not been entirely pleased with his form of late, he is enjoying being back in County Kilkenny.
"It's pretty sweet," he said. "Just getting around the property, seeing it all again, bringing back memories from last year, it's pretty nice. Pretty special." Read more
The first Irish Open was held in 1927. Today it is one of the European Tour Rolex Series events. The Irish Open is also one of the Open Qualifying events. This means that the top three players who have not already qualified and who finish in the top ten will qualify for The Open Championship.
The Jack Nicklaus designed golf course is set over 180 acres. It has been named "Ireland’s Best Parkland Golf Course" by the Golfer’s Guide to Ireland. Mount Juliet has twice hosted the World Golf Championships.
